Bear with me as I drone on

This week was spent talking with the ATA’s Technology and Maintenance Council about Future Freight Transportation and, for the 21st Century Truck Partnership, reviewing presentations on what technologies can be used to further improve greenhouse gas emissions and reduce fuel consumption.  We looked at waste heat recovery, lower rolling resistance tires, improvements in combustion, lower viscosity lubricants, weight reduction, platooning and more.

Transportation & Logistics Technology Consolidation, and What You Need to Know

It’s been a busy couple of years in our industry. By now at least one of your technology providers have been bought by a competitor or investment institution. Some of these transactions brought benefit, but many bring risk to your original investments in your partners. The fact is we are just scratching the surface of uncomfortable mergers and acquisitions. So far we've seen a lot of consolidation based on grabbing market share; we have not seen a lot of disruptive acquisitions like we have in other markets. This will be the next trend.

ACT Research: Trailer orders break record in October

Last month was a very good one for makers of commercial trailers as the 47,810 net orders placed amounted to  “record demand,” per the latest “State of the Industry: U.S. Trailers” report  published by ACT Research Co. (ACT).

“October net orders were up more than 90% year over year,” pointed out Frank Maly, ACT’s director – CV Transportation Analysis & Research. As for year-to-date, he said net orders are up 57%.
